The Top Ten: Week 14

by The Executive Director

Commentary: Thanksgiving has come and gone, and our overall leader Kimmy Gibbler enjoys a nice-sized lead. With just four weeks left, a handful of franchises still have their wild card bets available, with many in position to make a big move in the final quarter of the season. Also, an under-the-radar storyline is that Babe is threatening to break the record for worst season ever, which is held by Blossom Russo and Chris B. Corey, who each finished a season at -$4,900.

Here are the franchises that still have their wild card bets available:

East: Gordon Bombay
North: Bayonnaise, Boss Hardigan
South: Kiko Garcia, The 21th Precinct, The Notorious ABT, Will Cover
West: The Beard of Zeus, The People’s Champ

(Total; previous ranking)

1. Kimmy Gibbler ($800; 1)
Kimmy was able to win $100 in Week 13 and increased her lead in both the South and the overall. Two more good weeks and she could be home free.

2. Teddy KGB ($200; 6)
Teddy bounced back, winning $200, but still enjoys a pretty comfortable lead in the West. He switched to a more conservative betting approach last week and might be in prevent mode from here on out.

3. Bayonnaise ($100; 3)
Bayonnaise can’t seem to break away in the North. He lost $200, and still has a $600 lead, but this looked like the perfect week to create some distance between him and the rest of the division.

4. Will Cover ($0; 2)
Will stumbled last week, losing $400 and dropping back of Kimmy. He might be stuck between a rock and a hard place with his wild card bet. Win it and he could jump to take the overall lead. But lose it and he could miss the playoffs.

5. Kiko Garcia (-$100; 4)
Kiko lost $300 last week and is trending in the wrong direction. He also still has his wild card bet left with four weeks to go.

6. Ron Mexico (-$300; 8)
Ron has risen up to take a big lead in the East. He won $500 and now enjoys a $900 cushion, with his eyes on the overall leaderboard.

7. The Phoenix (-$500; 5)
A rough week for the Phoenix, who lost $500. He’s in playoff position, but one more bad week and he could be out of luck.

8. Art Schlichter (-$900; 9)
Art won another $100 last week, and is still treading water, it seems. He has a postseason spot right now, but hasn’t had any big swings – positive or negative – in the past few weeks.

9. Kenny Powers (-$1,100; NR)
Welcome to the big show to Kenny Powers, who won $500 and currently owns the last invite to the playoff dance. Kenny had a brutal start to the season, but has fought his way back into contention.

10. Yaz (-$1,200; 7)
No one lost more than Yaz in Week 13. He went from leading the East by $100 to trailing by $900 and is now out of the playoff picture. Still a long way to go, but last week has to sting.

Others receiving votes: Karl Farbman; Mr. Marbles; Gordon Bombay; Rick Moranis; Face

Dropped out: Gordon Bombay
