Commentary: Week 17 offered a lot of high drama, with two of the division titles, the overall winner, and both wild cards up for grabs. The People’s Champ missed out on his wild card bet, but still backed into the playoffs. Gordon Bombay barely lost the overall title, but was hampered by a Seattle-Atlanta push. Blossom Russo took home first place for the regular season. Teddy KGB, who not only had late bets, but also lost $500 (-$600 total for the week), still snuck into the playoffs. Karl Farbman and Mr. Marbles were left wondering what could have been, as they missed playoff spots by $200 and $100 respectively.

Regular season payouts:
Blossom Russo: East Division Champion and Overall Champion = $180
Chris B. Corey: North Division Champion = $135
Gordon Bombay: West Division Champion = $135

(note: all payouts will be made after the Super Bowl)

Commentary: The big shuffle this week was in the West Division, where The People’s Champ lost $500 and his one week reign at the top, and Gordon Bombay took a commanding lead going into the final week of the regular season. Thanks to a late Jason Hanson field goal, Chris B. Corey is hanging on to his lead by a thread in the North. Blossom Russo has locked up his division, but leads the overall standings by a slight margin. It’s anyone’s game going into Week 17. In the wild card race, Mr. Marbles lost $500 and all but eliminated himself from the playoffs. Karl Farbman needs a lot to happen in front of him to sneak into the postseason. Interesting betting strategy will come into play this week. If you’re behind, not only do you have to make correct picks, but they have to be opposite of the leaders (which will come into play in the playoffs as well). On top of that many teams have nothing to play for this week if they have already clinched their spot in the playoffs. A lot depends on how long coaches play their starters (come on Dungy, leave Peyton in the entire game for the love of God!). Also, Gordon Bombay and The People’s Champ both have their wild card bets remaining. Fat chance that Gordon Bombay will bet his, knowing that if he wins $500, he can’t be caught for the division. But The People’s Champ either has to bet his wild card, or make regular bets and hope that Gordon Bombay loses money in order to have a chance at the division crown.

Commentary: Week 15 was separation week for several teams in the Funny Money, with three wild cards bet. Bayonnaise and Don Mattingly put their money on Seattle, who was favored by 7 and lost outright. Therefore, both fell out of the playoff picture. It should be noted that Bayonnaise was in the midst of a phenomenal comeback, from almost -$2000 to the brink of the playoffs. As a result of Don Mattingly’s loss, Blossom Russo has clinched the East Division. The other wild card bet was Chris B. Corey, riding Tennessee as if Vince Young were named Jody. He vaulted himself to first in the North Division and is now in the driver’s seat. Teddy KGB lost $100 and is hanging onto the final playoff spot. In the West, Gordon Bombay has been dethroned for the moment. The People’s Champ, on an absolute tear, won $500 yet again to take over first place. Gordon Bombay, $100 behind the leader, currently holds the first Wild Card Playoff Berth. Both The People’s Champ and Gordon Bombay are the only remaining franchises with their wild card bets. Mr. Marbles and Karl Farbman were both hindered by Eli Manning and the terrible NY Giants, and both are hanging on by a string with hopes for the playoffs. Two weeks left and there is still a great deal to be determined.

Commentary: Would have been a good week for the Funny Money Franchises to be in Vegas. In the North Division, all four teams won $500, so no leads changed, and with available wild card bets for Chris B. Corey and Bayonnaise, it’s still anyone’s division with three weeks to go. Gordon Bombay and The People’s Champ both win $500 in the West, and are in the rearview mirror of overall leader Blossom Russo. Both also have their wild card available, which could cause for some interesting betting strategy down the stretch.

Commentary: Everything tightens up with four weeks to go in the regular season. Teddy KGB and Mr. Marbles both lose $100 and both are fined $100 for late picks. Meanwhile Chris B. Corey gets back into it, and there is $200 separating the top three teams in the North. In the West, Gordon Bombay loses $500 and The People’s Champ wins $500, closing the gap in the division. Karl Farbman ekes out his wild card bet and is back in the race for the division lead. This week also marks the most franchises that have had positive money this season. Only two franchises are in the negative.

Commentary: What a week what a week. Teddy KGB hangs on by a thread and hits his Seattle wild card to leap over both Chris B. Corey and Mr. Marbles and take the outright lead in the North. Chris B. Corey loses a mere $100 on the week, yet falls from first to third in the division and way back in the wild card race. Don Mattingly wins $500 and moves up into the thick of things at $800. Karl Farbman and Mr. DeBlasis both win $500 as well, staking their claim at $500 and $300 each respectively. Things are tightening up as we head down the stretch.

Commentary: Bayonnaise continues his surge in the North, making it a four horse race. Chris B. Corey and Mr. Marbles once again tied at the top of the division. In the East, Blossom Russo maintained his lead, while Kimmy Gibbler and Rick Moranis fall deeper and deeper into the abyss. Gordon Bombay keeps his strong lead in the West, but it is another division that has four playoff contenders. Throw in the fact that many teams still have their wild card, and the final few weeks of the season could be as crazy as a 51 yard Phil Dawson Field Goal (Ravens Suck).

Commentary: A ho-hum week in the Funny Money. The Patriots were on bye so some franchises were left perplexed on who to bet. Chris B. Corey won $100, while Mr. Marbles lost $100, giving Chris B. Corey a little cushion in the North. But Teddy KGB and Bayonnaise (yes Bayonnaise!) lurk in the shadows. Blossom Russo padded his lead in the East, leaving Don Mattingly down by two grand with seven weeks to go (and his wild card). It will take a major comeback or an epic collapse for Blossom Russo to miss the playoffs. The People’s Champ and Karl Farbman both lost ground on Gordon Bombay, and Mr. DeBlasis is right in the running after a sub-par first half of the season.

Commentary: Mr. DeBlasis cashes in on his wild card bet of Cleveland and wins $1,000 for the week, putting him right back in the thick of things. In the North, Chris B. Corey and Mr. Marbles are once again locking horns atop the division. They share the lead and also share a bathroom in their apartment. Both are making Mr. Marbles feel awkward. Teddy KGB is nipping at their heels after winning $500 two straight weeks. In the East, Blossom Russo increased his lead as the bottom of his division fell out. In the West, Gordon Bombay maintained his comfort zone, slightly trailing Blossom Russo for the overall lead.

Kimmy Gibbler loses a heartbreaker wild card bet on the Giants in London, but still isn’t out of it as we are nearing the halfway point of the season.
