The Top Ten: Week 11

by The Executive Director

Commentary: Week 10 was relatively prosperous for the league, though three franchises (The Big Hurt, Don Mattingly, and T-Ferg) lost their wild card bets. The divisional races are starting to shape up. In the North and South, a few franchises are pulling away from the rest of the field. In the West, Teddy KGB enjoys a decent-sized lead. Not featured in The Top Ten this week is any team from the East Division. Ron Mexico won his wild card bet, but couldn’t break free from the pack. All seven franchises are within an $800 window, so it’s anyone’s game. As of now, no East team is in a spot to win a wild card berth, so it might be division title or bust to get into the playoffs.

The overall lead changed hands once again this week, but most of The Top Ten stayed the same, with the franchises jockeying for position. Seven weeks to go.

(Total; previous ranking)

1. Will Cover ($400; 2)
Up and down he goes. Will bounces back from an awful Week 9 with a perfect Week 10 to regain the overall lead. He holds a slim $100 advantage over the rest of the league.

2. Kiko Garcia ($300; 4)
Kiko won $500 and got ever so closer to Will Cover, both in the South Division race and in the sprint for the overall crown. The South title chase seems to be down to three franchises.

3. Bayonnaise ($300; 1)
Bayonnaise only dropped $100, but maintained his $500 lead in the North. He’s no longer in the top spot, but there is still a long way to go.

4. Kimmy Gibbler ($100; 5)
Gibbler is officially back, with two perfect weeks in a row. She’s also just $300 back in the hotly contested South.

5. Teddy KGB ($0; 6)
Teddy seems to be for real in 2013, winning $500 just one week after jumping to the top of the West. He enjoys the biggest lead of any first place team right now, so the division is his to lose.

6. The Phoenix (-$200; 3)
The Phoenix only lost $100 but stayed close to Bayonnaise in the North. He is in prime postseason position.

7. Art Schlichter (-$600; 7)
Art eked out $100 and remains in the playoff hunt. He’s $900 back of the division lead, and continues to be relevant, though one bad week by him would break the wild card race wide open considering the large group behind him.

8. Waldo Geraldo Faldo (-$800; 9)
Waldo dropped $100 for the week, but holds onto the final playoff spot. He’ll need to do work quickly if he wants to overcome the divisional deficit in the West.

9. Boss Hardigan (-$1,000; NR)
Another $500 week for Boss Hardigan aka the Bergen County Oracle. Much like the Brothers Grimm did so many centuries ago, the Brothers Savon are trying to create a fairy tale with this season.

10. Face (-$1,000; 8)
Face lost $300 and bounced himself out of a postseason spot. He’s on the borderline right now, just slightly ahead of a crowded pack of franchises desperately trying to climb up.

Others receiving votes: Ron Mexico; Gordon Bombay; Larisa Oleynik

Dropped out: The Notorious A.B.T.
