The Top Ten: Week 16
Commentary: With just two weeks to go in the regular season we bid adieu to The Beard of Zeus, who lost his wild card, and T-Ferg, who was eliminated via the Chris B. Corey rule. The only division leader that changed this week was in the East, where it’s a three horse race. The race for the final few playoff spots is tightening up, and Week 16 will be crucial in determining who can coast into the playoffs and who will be biting their nails in Week 17. There are a handful of franchises in contention that still have their wild card bets, but if any of those franchises loses the big bet, it will break the playoff race wide open.
Here are the seven franchises that can still bet their wild cards:
East: None
North: Bayonnaise; Boss Hardigan
South: Kiko Garcia; The 21th Precinct; The Notorious ABT; Will Cover
West: The People’s Champ
(Total; previous ranking)
1. Kimmy Gibbler ($1,200; 1)
Kimmy eked out $100 in Week 15 and now enjoys a $700 lead in the South and a $600 lead for the overall title. However, both of these races might be in jeopardy since Kiko still has his wild card bet.
2. Teddy KGB ($600; 4)
A huge week for Teddy, who won $500 and now has a gigantic lead in the West. He’s up by $1,700 with two weeks to play, and seems to have it almost wrapped up. Teddy now sets his sights on the overall title.
3. Kiko Garcia ($500; 3)
As mentioned above, Kiko is in position to make a run at Kimmy both for the division and overall lead. But losing his wild card bet could crush his playoff dreams if the rest of the league catches up to him.
4. Bayonnaise ($300; 2)
A rough week for Bayonnaise, who lost $300 and can’t seem to break away in the North. He’s up by $600 in the division and is by no means safe. He has his wild card bet available, but at this point there is more risk than reward if he uses it.
5. Will Cover ($0; 5)
Another week goes by and Will wins $100, remaining in playoff position. There’s a slim chance he could catch Kimmy these last two weeks if he wins his wild card, but much like Bayonnaise, he’s likely to hang onto it for now.
6. Gordon Bombay (-$300; 9)
A big Week 15 for Bombay, who won $500 and went from third to first in the East. He’s in the catbird’s seat right now, but only maintains a $200 lead at the moment.
7. The Phoenix (-$300; 7)
The Phoenix won $100 last week and is still trailing Bayonnaise for the North lead. The postseason race is heating up behind him, too, and a step in the wrong direction could doom him this week.
8. Karl Farbman (-$500; 8)
Farbman keeps trending positive, as he wins $300 and now trails Bombay by $200. Karl’s in playoff position but is by no means out of the woods.
9. Ron Mexico (-$700; 6)
A rough week for Ronnie, who lost $500 and dropped from first to third in the East. He holds the final playoff spot right now, but just barely.
10. Rick Moranis (-$900; NR)
Rick made a big move, winning $500 and getting back into the playoff race. A strong finish will get him into the postseason.

Results: Bets must be placed by Saturday night at midnight in order to be considered on time.
The Top Ten: Week 15
Commentary: Several franchises had setbacks in Week 14, exiting the playoff race (for now). Art Schlichter, Kenny Powers, and Yaz, all lost $500, so when it comes to this week’s Top Ten, it’s no soup for them. These power rankings sometime seem to be about nothing; just a listing of the top teams and movement. But if you take a closer look, there’s a different kavorka when it comes to this edition of The Top Ten.
Three weeks to go, and here are the eight remaining wild card bets available:
East: None
North: Bayonnaise, Boss Hardigan
South: Kiko Garcia, The 21th Precinct, The Notorious ABT, Will Cover
West: The Beard of Zeus, The People’s Champ
(Total; previous ranking)
1. Kimmy Gibbler ($1,100; 1)
Kimmy won another $300 in Week 14, and enjoys a $900 lead on her division and a $500 lead for the overall crown. For now, she remains Master of Her Domain. Queen of the Castle.
2. Bayonnaise ($600; 3)
A big week for the ‘Naise as he wins $500 and now leads the North by a grand. He might be in perfect position to wager his wild card at season’s end with a chance to repeat as regular season champ. For those doubting the brains and prowess of Bayonnaise, he says, “They’re real. And they’re spectacular.”
3. Kiko Garcia ($200; 5)
Kiko went up $300 last week, but is still trailing Kimmy. He’s $1,000 ahead of the final postseason berth, so only a bad case of the jimmy legs these last three weeks will keep him from the playoffs.
4. Teddy KGB ($100; 2)
Teddy lost $100, but still has a $1,500 lead over the rest of the West. He’ll make a few bets these next few weeks, and yada yada yada, he should be a shoo-in for the division crown and the playoffs.
5. Will Cover (-$100; 4)
Will lost $100 and remains behind Kimmy and Kiko in his division, but sits comfortably (for now) in playoff position. Will can still pull the trigger on his wild card bet, too, though the risk might not be worth it. He could go through 2013 without using the big bet. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…
6. Ron Mexico (-$200; 6)
Ron won $100 and still is in first in the East, but his lead experienced significant shrinkage last week, now only up by $600. He can’t blame the cold water in the pool this time.
7. The Phoenix (-$400; 7)
The Phoenix won $100 last week and stays in postseason position. He’s $1,000 out of the division lead, so it will take a strong charge to make a run at Bayonnaise. Formerly the resident hipster doofus of the FMFL, The Phoenix is a few short weeks away from his first playoff appearance.
8. Karl Farbman (-$800; NR)
Karl won $500 for the second consecutive week and now holds onto a coveted playoff spot. Not since the Moops invaded Spain in the 8th Century has someone had so much momentum.
9. Gordon Bombay (-$800; NR)
Gordon won his wild card bet to get into playoff contention and is percentage points behind Karl in the tiebreaker. Gordon has been a two-face this year, sometime hotsy-totsy, sometimes hotsy-notsy. He’ll try to stay in well-lit rooms the rest of the season.
10. Mr. Marbles (-$900; NR)
Mr. Marbles Won $500 on a three-teamer and now finds himself just $100 out of the postseason. He’ll need to keep it going in Week 15 to prove that he’s spongeworthy.
